Alternative Tourism SA aims to promote South Africa as a significant and intriguing destination, full of opportunities for alternative tourism. We encourage our members to create strong partnerships with one another in order to promote South Africa as Africa’s dream destination.

What do we do?

Alternative Tourism SA promotes the interests of its members in a number of ways:

• We provide opportunities for alternative tourism service providers to meet and support one another
• We arrange for their participation in national and international exhibitions
• We ensure that they receive accurate industry-related information
• We develop projects in the Alternative Tourism field
• We promote genuine ecotourism products and services and the use of environmental education
• We support communities that have made conservation their business and have chosen to use alternative tourism as one of their strategies for local development
• We aim to ensure the preservation and sustainable use of South Africa’s natural, cultural and historical heritage
